The word trois is the French word for three. It symbolises the division of the world— spirit, body, soul; birth, life, death; past, present, future. The name of the EP is then apt for this release given its birth order as the third in a line of recordings by Gwendolyn in recent years, as well as TROIS’ content — three composers and three works. Her piano partner since 21 years, Simon Bucher, performs with Gwendolyn on TROIS. Three is a number that expresses perfect harmony, and Simon and Gwendolyn echo the melancholy and beauty of the time these pieces were written. This echo becomes a third entity, a calling out, a trois.

The first work on the album is "Morceau de lecture" by Gabriel Fauré, one of the greatest French composers of the beginning of the 20th century and incidentally, the teacher of Lili Boulanger. The French female composer Lili Boulanger’s "Nocturne" is the second work on the album; this is followed by Ferenc Vécsey's "Valse Triste".

The album was released on 7 December 2018. TROIS is available on Naxos, as well as digitally on most platforms.

Music videos were made to accompany each of the pieces.
