A special honour bestowed: Art Muse London have chosen West Side Story as the no. 2 pick of their top 15 recordings of 2020.
Press Release, National Concert Hall of Ireland: The National Concert Hall is delighted to announce that its International Master Course scheduled for August will go ahead online this year. Scheduled to take place from Tuesday 4th to Friday 7th August, the course comprises online masterclasses and seminars culminating in an all-faculty panel discussion available to view on NCH YouTube and Facebook Channels.
Like everything else, The Exhale has been impacted by the necessary measures against the spread of COVID-19. During a time when the live music experience has, by and large, little option other than to admit defeat, Gwendolyn Masin has decided to rise to the challenge. As Goethe wrote, “fresh activity is the only means of overcoming adversity”. The Exhale moves online as of April 27th 2020.
Gwendolyn Masin and Finghin Collins' second International Master Course at the National Concert Hall of Ireland in August 2020 has been announced. Further faculty members are Gilles Apap, (violin), Gary Hoffman (cello), and Kim Kashkashian (viola). Applications are now open.
Moving towards a future where we are present... In this podcast for "Music, Mind, and Movement" about Gwendolyn's master course The Exhale at the beautiful Lake of Biel, the violinist discusses why teaching a musician needs to go beyond just acquiring the skills involved in playing an instrument.
With Cocktail für die Musen, Gwendolyn has received the privilege of carte blanche, the opportunity to invite and collaborate with musicians she has greatly admired from afar for years to present ‘mixes’ of music in a new context. Each concert is unique, shaken or stirred, designed exclusively for the great hall in the Casino. Individual programmes have taken months to design, with compositions especially written for each formation. Musicians on all sides of the spectrum are in a position to have their music heard with fresh textures, instrumentation and unusual combinations of people playing together.
A professional musician needs holistic well-being as their foundation for a long and successful career. The Exhale is a master course with exceptional musicians and specialists conveying awareness and understanding of physical well-being to the participants. Apart from private lessons and coachings in chamber music, the master course will include workshops and seminars – covering topics such as yoga, breath awareness, meditation, Dispokinesis, improvisation and conscious eating. The Exhale is aimed at professional musicians as well as string students with a wish to have a professional career. The Exhale also encourages young string players already working as professional concert musicians and advanced amateurs to improve their skills.
I am honoured to have been proferred the title of curator and performer of my own series in Berne's premiere venue, its Casino. This season, the famed concert building will reopen its doors after two years of renovation. As of October, I will introduce four concerts in 2019/2020 that seek to build a bridge and understanding between classical music and other styles of music.
