Gwendolyn met ORIGIN in Nederland

Gwendolyn komt tijdens de feestdagen terug naar Nederland met ORIGIN; haar programma met dramatische, virtuoze stukken en vele bekende publiekslievelingen.

In aanvulling op haar concerten eerder dit jaar in het Beaufort Huis in Austerlitz, de Waalse Kerk in Amsterdam en De Kopermolen in Vaals, speelt ze op 20 december in het Amsterdamse ‘muzieklaboratorium’ Splendor en op 22 december in het Valkenburgs Openluchttheater.

Gwendolyn returns to the Netherlands for the festive season with ORIGIN, her programme of dramatic, virtuoso pieces and much-loved favourites.

In addition to her concerts this year in Beaufort Huis in Austerlitz, the Waalse Kerk in Amsterdam, en De Kopermolen in Vaals, she will perform on 20 December in Amsterdam's favourite "music laboratory" Splendor, and in Valkenburg's Openluchttheater on 22 December.

Behind the Scenes of ORIGIN

ORIGIN beslaat werk wat verweven is met een deel van Gwendolyns muzikale identiteit en bevat muziekstukken uit landen waar Gwendolyn tijdens haar jeugd heeft gewoond.

ORIGIN toont ook Gwendolyns liefde voor lesgeven: haar ensemble bestaat uit jong toptalent waaronder Gwendolyns eigen studenten en een aantal jonge musici uit Nederland.

Bijna alle werken van het programma ORIGIN zijn gearrangeerd in nauwe samenwerking met de Ierse componist Raymond Deane. Op deze manier worden symfonische werken herschreven voor de bezetting van een ensemble. De muzikale lijnen zijn teruggebracht naar de essentie.

Laat je door Gwendolyn meenemen op reis langs Roemeense en Spaanse dansen, Jiddische weemoed en bekende Roemeense volksmelodieën.

ORIGIN features works that weave part of the tapestry of Gwendolyn's musical identity and showcases pieces from the countries of Gwendolyn's roots while others are companions from her childhood – the songs she was raised listening to and playing, the music she is made of. 

ORIGIN also bears witness to Gwendolyn’s love of teaching: her ensemble is made up of some of the freshest contemporary talent, a combination of Gwendolyn’s students and some of the Netherlands' top young talent.

Nearly all the works on ORIGIN have been arranged in close collaboration with Irish composer Raymond Deane, allowing pieces otherwise only heard with symphony orchestra to be reduced to their essence. Join Gwendolyn and be led through a journey of the dances of Romani people or those of Spain; Jewish melodies and the folk themes of Rumania.
