The Space Between the Notes – XLIV

Zum deutschen Text

"A good teacher is an ally who holds space for a student to explore their own possibilities, instead of the teacher’s limits." – Gwendolyn Masin

At some point in the process of creating, I begin communicating with an imaginary listener or observer. I want my work to be something that others want to be a part of too. So when it comes to educating the next generation of performers, I create platforms that empower emerging talent and generate new professional opportunities.

As founder and artistic director of the National Concert Hall's International Master Course, it thrills me to write to you that the summer festival academy returns from July 29th until August 3rd 2024, offering musicians the occasion to partake in a series of masterclasses by prominent, distinguished artists, aiming to build confidence in students and promote participation in chamber music.

The faculty in 2024 comprises of Sarah Christian and I (violin); Hartmut Rohde (viola), Maximilian Hornung (cello) and Nicholas Rimmer (piano).

Over six days, participants receive one-on-one lessons, chamber music coaching, and performance opportunities. The NCH IMC also includes workshops by composer Emma O’Halloran, and Irish fiddle player, singer, and composer, Zoë Conway. First-reading chamber music coachings are guided by Abigail McDonagh (violin), Martin Moriarty (viola), and Patrick Moriarty (cello).

Apply now to be part of this immersive experience, a unique opportunity to practise, collaborate and perform in Ireland’s premiere venue for classical music:
